The Vital Building (the move)

Previously the El Cerrito Mill & Lumber Building – Moved From Across The Street

This landmark building, often referred to as the most beautiful building in El Cerrito (East Bay Area), was scheduled to be demolished in the spring of 2003. Vital Building & Enterprises, Inc. agreed to work with the developers, who purchased the old mill site, to relocate the historical building to the site being developed by our firm. The site is directly across the street making the project feasible.

The previous El Cerrito Mill and lumber building, renamed The Vital Building, was completed in the spring of 2003. The actual building move occurred on September 15, 2002, 2-7am (see project portfolio). The building has two retail spaces, one approx. 2900 sq. ft., the other space approx. 1750 sq. ft. The upstairs contains 10  professional office suites. There are 18 parking spaces in the rear parking lot. See our Current Leasing page for possible vacancies. This project received much media attention with the local newspapers.

We also made it into the Images of America El Cerrito History book, printed in 2005. We were one of last entries in the book. I’d recommend getting the book, especially if you have been in El Cerrito, or have family that has been here, as I have, for a while.
